Road Salting and Snow Clearance

When icy conditions are forecast KCC will salt the main routes in Kent as a precautionary measure.  Snow clearing operations will take place when heavy and continuous snowfall settles.

In both ice and snow KCC will concentrate on primary routes such as:

  • access to hospitals
  • fire stations and other important facilities while it's snowing or if there are strong winds causing drifting.

Once the main roads are clear, they will work on other roads.

Salt Bins

The salt bins are there to help all road users, including pedestrians. You may use the salt to treat ice and snow on small areas of the road or pathways.

saltbin-sm.jpg

It is not for use on private drives or paths.

If you need to buy salt to treat ice on your driveway or business premises, you should buy it from builders' merchants and DIY stores.

Salt bins will be refilled using a mixture of sharp sand or other grit material and salt. In the event of severe weather further refills will be carried out as time and resources permit.

The Parish Council has a small strategic supply in reserve at Brooker Farm.
