Newchurch 2000 Award Scheme

The Newchurch 2000 Award Scheme was instigated by the late Libby Baxter to mark the arrival of the Millennium within our parish.

The award this year has been given to Mrs Pam Baxter for many reasons, mainly linked to her fantastic fundraising skills. For many years Mrs Baxter has been hugely involved with Newchurch Church by organising garden parties and coffee mornings which raised enough money for new heating in the church, lighting, the toilet facilities to be installed and the new pathway leading to the church. Alongside this, Mrs Baxter also spent many years as a very proactive Warden for the church.

Over the last few years, Mrs Baxter has expanded her fundraising to Newchurch Village Hall via regular coffee mornings held in the Social Club on Saturday mornings. These funds have also been very welcome as they have helped pay for the new fire door and the new floors in the toilets.

It is noticed that when there is a special village event Mrs Baxter is more than likely behind the super refreshments being provided.

The Scheme has two objectives:Board_2019-sm.jpg

  1. To annually mark and reward a resident of the parish who has, through their own time, effort and skills, made a significant contribution over a number of years, to the life and facilities of our community. It is no surprise that winners are often drawn from the Parish Council, the PCC, the Village Hall and Social Club committees along with the many other Village organisations.

  2. To provide grants available to assist worthy causes and projects within our community which are a benefit to all. We have a great communal spirit in our sparsely populated parish and this scheme recognises and fosters that spirit.

Libby Baxter

The Newchurch 2000 Award Scheme is one of several projects instigated by Libby Baxter, herself a great contributor to our community.

Other projects that she is instigated at the time of the Millennium were:

The Millennium Name plaques

One was made for every house in the village and you may notice these green personalised ‘2000` name plaques on many of the houses.

The Spinney

At the junction of Newchurch Lane with the Bilsington road, a quiet place to sit or walk the dog, planted with natural tree species.
