Newchurch 2000 Award Scheme

The Newchurch 2000 Award Scheme was instigated by the late Libby Baxter to mark the arrival of the Millennium within our parish.

Congratulations to Phil Weatherup who has been awarded this years Newchurch Award.
Phil has contributed to the Newchurch community in multiple ways over the years, including being an active member of the Newchurch Club Committee, regularly trekking around the village in all direction collecting Litter to keep our village looking pristine, And even doing a stint in the Newchurch Pantomime

The Scheme has two objectives:Village_award_board_2020.jpg

  1. To annually mark and reward a resident of the parish who has, through their own time, effort and skills, made a significant contribution over a number of years, to the life and facilities of our community. It is no surprise that winners are often drawn from the Parish Council, the PCC, the Village Hall and Social Club committees along with the many other Village organisations.

  2. To provide grants available to assist worthy causes and projects within our community which are a benefit to all. We have a great communal spirit in our sparsely populated parish and this scheme recognises and fosters that spirit.

Every year in December a small committee of past winners, currently chaired by Helen Langrish, consider nominated candidates and elect a winner for the past year.

There is a small monetary award and the winners name is added to the Honours Board in the Village Hall Community Room.

Anyone can make a nomination by emailing nominations@newchurchvillage.org.

Libby Baxter

The Newchurch 2000 Award Scheme is one of several projects instigated by Libby Baxter, herself a great contributor to our community.

Other projects that she is instigated at the time of the Millennium were:

The Millennium Name plaques

One was made for every house in the village and you may notice these green personalised ‘2000` name plaques on many of the houses.

The Spinney

At the junction of Newchurch Lane with the Bilsington road, a quiet place to sit or walk the dog, planted with natural tree species.
